Stefano Paleari
Stefano Paleari is Full Professor of Corporate Finance at the University of Bergamo and Board Member of the EUA (European University Association), Scientific Director of the ICCSAI (International Center for Competitiveness Studies in the Aviation Industry), and President of the CISAlpino Institute for Comparative Studies in Europe (CCSE), University of Bergamo and University of Augsburg, where he heads the Research Group on Higher Education (HERe). He was Rector of the University of Bergamo (2009-2015), General Secretary (2011-2013) and President (2013-2015) of the CRUI (Conference of Italian University Rectors). In 2015 he was awarded the honorary title of Grand Officer of the Italian Republic for merit acquired by the nation in the science field.
His has published scientific papers on a variety of topics covering Financial Economics (Initial Public Offerings, Business Groups, Business Valuation, Corporate Governance, New Technology Based Firms financing), Air Transportation (Pricing Strategies, Connectivity, Competition, Regulation) and Higher Education (Governance models, Financing mechanisms, Impact on regional development, New Technologies in Higher Educations, Internationalization, Academic Entrepreneurship).
John Aubrey Douglass
John Aubrey Douglass is Senior Research Fellow – Public Policy and Higher Education at the Center for Studies in Higher Education (CSHE) at the University of California – Berkeley. He is the author of the book, The New Flagship University: Changing the Paradigm from Global Ranking to National Relevancy (Palgrave Macmillan), The Conditions for Admissions (Stanford Press 2007), The California Idea and American Higher Education (Stanford University Press, 2000; published in Chinese in 2008), and with Jud King and Irwin Feller (ed) Globalization’s Muse: Universities and Higher Education Systems in a Changing World (Public Policy Press, 2009).
He also serves as a consultant on issues related to institutional strategic planning, access and academic program quality assurance. Prior to coming to CSHE and Berkeley, he served as the chief policy analyst for the University of California’s Systemwide Academic Senate and held teaching and research positions at the University of California – Santa Barbara campus.
